本讲主要讲授英语演讲的神奇魅力，它可以让世界变得截然不同。同时本章还梳理了英语演讲的沟通进程，其中的核心要素。此外，本章还探讨了公共英语演讲与文化的关系，以及公共英语演讲与批判性思维的关系。 This chapter mainly talks about the power of English speech which can exert great influence on the world. It introduces the speech communication process which involves six elements. Besides, it also explores the relationship between English public speaking and culture and critical thinking.

Speaking Confidently and Ethically

演讲者面对听众时，不仅要克服紧张，充满自信，还要具备强烈的道德责任感。本章，我们会介绍一些技巧，告诉你如何做一名有自信、有道德的演讲者。 As a speaker, when you face the audiences, you should be confident and overcome the nervousness. Meanwhile, a good public speaker has strong sense of ethical obligations. In this chapter, we will introduce some skills, and tell you how to be a confident and ethical speaker.

Giving Your First English Speech

本讲主要讲授如何开启第一次演讲，教你如何组织演讲，并传授演讲技巧，助你开启演讲之旅。 This chapter introduces how to give your first speech. We focus on how to organize a speech and and provide some suggestions on delivering it. In this way, you can easily start your journey of public speaking.

第二章 Speech Preparation: Getting Started

本部分主要探讨如何选择一个良好的、独特的英语演讲题目，如何确定英语演讲的各种目的，以及采取何种方法支撑自己的想法与观点。 Section two mainly discusses how to choose a proper and distinctive topic for your English speech and how to select the general purposes and specific purposes. It also provides some methods to support your ideas and viewpoints.

Selecting a Topic and a Purpose

一场精彩的公共演讲要主题恰当，目的明确。本讲主要讲授如何选择演讲主题，并介绍了三种相关方法。此外，本章还探讨了何为演讲目的，以及如何明确演讲目的。 A successful public speaking consists of a good topic and clear purposes. This chapter deals with how to choose a topic, and provides three methods. What’s more, it  discusses the definition of purpose and tells how to determine your purposes.

Supporting Your Ideas

在公众演讲中，素材最具体，最重要，能帮助支撑整个演讲内容，使你的观点变得具体、清晰、形象、可信，从而吸引听众的注意力，让听众参与到你的演讲中来。我们最常用到的支撑素材有例子、数据和证言。  In public speaking, specific materials are of vital importance to a speech. In order to attract the attention of the audience and get them engaged in your speech, we should provide supporting materials to make the statement specific, interesting and credible. The commonly used materials are examples, statistics and testimony.

第三章 Speech Preparation: Organizing and Outlining

本部分主要阐述如何建构英语演讲的主体部分，如何以恰当而巧妙的方式布局演讲的开篇，以怎样独特的技巧对演讲进行结尾，以及如何撰写演讲的大纲。 Section three mainly demonstrates how to organize the body of a speech. Besides, it introduces some techniques about how to start and end a speech properly and strikingly. What’s more, it also discusses how to outline a speech.

Organizing the Body of the Speech

演讲结构的重要性不仅体现在它能提高说话者的可信度，增强说话者的自信心，还体现在它能帮助说话者顺利传递信息。本讲旨在帮助大家学会使用清晰、具体的方法来有效地打造演讲的结构。 Speech organization is important, for it not only boosts your credibility, your confidence, but your ability to deliver a message fluently. This chapter helps us to use clear, specific method to organize speeches.

Beginning and Ending the Speech

演讲的开头部分一般有两个主要目的，第一，激发听众的兴趣，第二，让听众为接下来的演讲主体部分做好准备。本讲将为大家介绍几种不同的演讲开篇的方法。 The introduction to your speech has two main goals: first, to capture and hold your audience’s attention and interest, and second, to prepare your audience intellectually and psychologically for the body of the speech. This chapter introduces to us different methods of beginning a speech.

Outlining the Speech

本讲给同学们介绍公众演讲当中的两种提纲，详细解释两种提纲的撰写指导准则，并分别用实例进行阐述说明。 This chapter introduces to the students the two types of outlines in public speaking, explains in details their  guidelines and demonstrates how they are used with detailed sample commentary.

第四章 Presenting the Speech

本部分主要讲授如何专业而有个性地运用英语演讲的语言，如何运用肢体语言等方式发表演讲，以及如何使用图片、视频、课件等演讲辅助工具。 Section four mainly introduces the methods of using language in a professional and distinguishable way, four types of body language and some visual aids such as pictures, video clips and PowerPoint.

Using Language

中国有句古话说得好：“工欲善其事，必先利其器”。对于演讲者来说，语言文字就是手中的利器。在本讲当中，学生将学习各种“利其器”的办法，主要包括如何使演讲的语言准确、清晰、生动和得体。 The old Chinese saying goes well, "Good tools are prerequisite to the execution of a job." And it is words that are the tools of a speaker's craft. In this chapter, students are going to learn various ways to sharpen their tools, i. e. use language accurately, clearly, vividly and appropriately.

Delivering the Speech

本讲内容主要是教大家“如何演说”。首先对“成功演说”进行了定义，然后分类介绍了四种类型的演讲，最后帮助同学们养成演说意识，那就是通过有效使用声音和肢体来强化语言想要表达的意思。 This chapter is about how to deliver a speech. It first defines a good delivery and then classifies four types of speeches according to different methods of delivery. It also helps the students to become aware of the fact that they can use their voice and body to convey messages expressed by their words.

Using Visual Aids

视觉辅助有助于听众更好地理解你传达的信息。 本讲旨在帮助你学会在演讲时选择合适的视觉辅助，尤其是学会利用幻灯片。 Visual aids help the audience to better understand the information you convey. This chapter aims to help you learn to choose the right kind of visual aids in your public speaking, especially the use of PowerPoint Slides.

第五章 Varieties of Public Speaking

本部分主要介绍不同目的的英语演讲，这些不同类型的英语演讲的独特性及其各自的方法技巧。并且，本部分还阐述了如何为不同的场合准备合适的英语演讲，以及在不同的英语演讲与辩论竞赛中，如何充分发挥英语演讲的独特魅力。此外，本部分还专门介绍了英语辩论的基本理念，英国议会制辩论的核心模式，以及解析了有趣的英语辩论辩题。 Section five introduces English public speech with various purposes which displays their uniqueness and techniques. Besides, this section also talks about how to make English speech on special occasions and how to exert its power in different competitions of English speech and debate. What’s more, this sections focuses on introducing the basic concepts of English debate, the core modes of British Parliament Debate, and it further analyzes some interesting debate motions.

Speaking to Inform

这一讲首先介绍了四种类型的信息型演讲和如何分别组织它们，然后用很多实例说明信息型演讲的几个指导方针。 This chapter first introduces four types of informative speeches and how to organize them respectively. And then it illustrates several guidelines in informative speaking with many examples.

Speaking to Persuade

劝说式演讲是我们最常见的演讲，目的是希望改变观念、影响决定或促使大家行动起来。了解劝说式演讲类型，熟知劝说策略，学会组织劝说演讲能助大家在竞赛、学习和未来的职场中获取成功。  Every day we are bombarded with all kinds of persuasive messages, which are intended to change our belief, influence our decision or motivate our actions. The ability to speak persuasively will benefit us in every part of your life, from speaking competitions to academic studies and career aspirations. In this chapter we are going to learn three types or persuasive speeches, three persuasive strategies and the three pattern s to organize persuasive speeches.

Speaking on Special Occasions

通常大家做的演讲可能是信息型演讲或者说服性演讲，但是人生中总有一些特殊场合我们也会被要求上台发言。本讲主要探讨了五种特殊场合的演讲，分别是介绍性演讲、颁奖演说、获奖感言、祝酒词和纪念性演讲。分析了每一种特殊场合演讲的定义和目的，以及如何准备这种演讲，在每一讲的结尾都附上了一个视频以及对视频的分析。  Most of the speeches that we will give in our lifetime will be informative or persuasive, but there are some special occasions when we may be called upon to give other kinds of speeches. In this chapter, we will look at five kinds of special occasions and the corresponding speeches. They are speeches of introduction, speeches of presentation, speeches of acceptance, speeches of toast, and commemorative speeches. Our lecture will revolve around the definition of each kind of speech and its main purpose. We will also explore some key points in preparing the speeches on different occasions. At the end of each section, we will show you an example speech followed by an analysis of this speech.

Speaking in Competitions

本讲主要介绍了适合中国大学生参 加的四大英语演讲比赛：“外研社杯”英语演讲大赛，“21世纪杯”英语演讲比赛，“希望之星”英语风采大赛，以及“外研社杯”英语辩论赛。我们的授课是围绕着各个比赛的历史，赛制，奖项设置来进行的，并在最后附上了比赛的精彩视频，让听众对各个比赛有更直观的了解。 This chapter focuses on four major public speaking competitions for college students in China. They are "FLTRP Cup" English Public Speaking Contest, “21 Century Cup” English Speaking Competition, “Star of Outlook” English Talent Competition, and "FLTRP Cup" English Debating Competition. The lecture mainly explains the history, format and prizes of each competition. A video is offered at the end of each section so that students can get an overview of these competitions.

Introduction to Debate

辩论作为一种独特的演讲方式，不仅在几千年前就已经悄然兴起，现如今更是流行于世界各地。起源于英国下议院的英国议会制辩论已经成为了被广泛采用的一种辩论模式。辩论中的八位选手分别扮演不同的角色和担任不同的职责，他们通过批判性的思考和大胆的表达来维护各自的立场。本讲向大家解释了什么是辩论以及辩论的基本规则，并且还向大家展示了辩手是如何组织辩论发言来维护本方立场的。 Debate, a unique way of speaking, is very popular worldwide as it was thousands of years ago. BP debate, having its roots in the British House of Commons, is a format that is widely adopted by many debate competitions. In a debate, the 8 speakers play different roles and think critically to defend their sides. Debate pushes people to think differently and speak bravely. This chapter explains to us what is debate and its basic rules. What’s more, it shows us how speakers construct their debate speeches and defend their side.
